World of Warcraft's second expansion did pretty well. Like, 2.8 million units in the first 24 hours well. This, we all know. The important question is, what sort of impact did Lich King have on the WoW playerbase? What kind of impact did the expansions for EverQuest 2 (The Shadow Odyssey) and Lord of the Rings Online (Mines of Moria) have on those communities?
Turbine's games are all down for maintenance today, with Lord of the Rings Online getting the full treatment during its downtime.
You've now had almost two weeks to get your feet wet in Lord of the Rings Online's Mines of Moria expansion, and now Codemasters and Turbine want to know what you think. Do you enjoy the new Legendary Weapons? Do you hate the new combat system? Do you want to scream every time you see a pack of Wardens running around in game?
You may realize that the essential plot for the Lord of the Rings books has something to do with a ring, or at least we'd hope you do. Perhaps you know that there is this one ring that keeps making Hobbits invisible, and a bunch of Orcs want it really, really badly. But other than that, you're lost to the origins and impact that this ring has in relation to the grand scheme of things.
The deep Silvertine Lodes were once a great resource for mithril and stone used in building the fortresses throughout Moria and funding its expansion. Now, the area is mined dry of mithril and overrun by dark forces. Most of your adventures in this area will revolve around saving lost travelers or defeating the Goblin infestation, but regardless of the task, your presence is sorely needed.
So players can expect the same amount of book updates and further yearly expansions, which sounds like it can only be a good thing for a game that at launch was often tagged with the, "Not enough to do at end-game" complaint. It doesn't seem like that's ever going to become a problem again, however.
Some of Turbine's servers for Lord of the Rings Online Online have been undergoing issues, apparently stemming from unduly high loads on Saturday evening.
We've already introduced you to the Druids and Scion of Set, and so as to keep the ball rolling (or so they say), we're gonna let you have a meet-and-greet of sorts with even more characters you'll encounter in Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures.
Item customization's the "in" thing in MMORPGs these days, and in their next free expansion, City of Heroes (and City of Villains, of course) will also be implementing their own crafting system.
